Tutorial 1: Create new Stackz File


Follow the steps below to manually create a new Stackz wordlist.

  • Launch Stackz

    reating new Stackz wordlists is supported by Stackz Standard, Stackz Dictionary and the free Stackz Wordlist Creator.

  • Create a new file

    Select the menu command <File | New>. A new file with an empty lesson named 'Lesson 1' appears.

  • Open the Stack Edit Dialog on the initial stack cell

    Select the empty field at level 3 with the mouse, then select the context menu command 'Edit'. An empty stack edit dialog appears.
    Note: This assumes the Stackz Classic mode, where unknown entries start in the central (neutral) position.

  • Manually add new entries

    Press the INSERT key to insert a new empty entry. A new line for the new entry appears in the edit dialog, with the first attribute in in-place edit mode, and the Windows keyboard appropriately set. Enter some text, and press TAB to edit the next attribute. Repeat for all attributes, press ENTER at the last attribute.

    Note: Every attribute is associated with a Stackz language, which has a specific keyboard assigned. Editing an attribute automatically selects the it's language's keyboard.

  • 🕮 Dictionary Edition only: Add entries from dictionary tool

    If the dictionary tool window is not already visible, open it using the button on the main window toolbar.
    Type 'new' in the text entry field of the dictionary tool window and press Enter. The search results are displayed in the tool's query result list.
    Select some results with the mouse while holding down the control key, then press the INSERT key on the keyboard. The results are inserted to the selected stack and directly appear in the open edit dialog.

    Note: This process requires a single stack to be selected, the edit dialog does not have to be open.

  • 🕮 Dictionary Edition only: Add entries from select kanji tool

    If the select kanji tool window is not already visible, open it using the button on the main window toolbar.
    Type 'new' in the tool window text field and press Enter. The search results are displayed in the tool's query result list.
    Select some results with the mouse while holding down the control key, then press the INSERT key on the keyboard. The results are inserted to the selected stack and directly appear in the open edit dialog.

  • Edit an existing Entry

    Select an attribute of any entry in the stack edit dialog with the mouse, then press F2. The attribute enters the in-place edit mode, and the appropriate keyboard is automatically activated in Windows.
    Make some changes to the text and press ENTER to accept them.
    Repeat, make some more changes to the text and press ESCAPE to leave the edit mode without accepting them.


You just created a new lesson! Rename its Title from Lesson 1 to something else by clicking on the name.
