Great, except a couple things

I've been using it a lot the last couple days but I have some issues with it.

I'm using a tablet PC (Motion M1400) so I don't have a great CPU, but nothing too bad (1.1ghz pentium m with 1gb ram). However, the new version is just SO SLOW. Doing anything is SLOW - moving the cursor around, clicking on items etc. Just moving my cursor around over the stack window is very slow. Perhaps part of the reason is that there is more frequent cursor position sampling on tablet pc's, compared to using a mouse, but there's really no good reason for this slow down. It makes using Stackz very frustrating now.

I didn't have this slow down with past versions. I think it has to do with the upgraded visual theme. PLEASE have an option to disable these visual enhancements.

Also, please have an option to disable the menu folding - it makes changing the ColorMode via the Stackz button very slow and annoying. Or at least make the menu folding behave properly, so that it remembers if I wanted that menu folder or not.

Also there are some bugs mostly to do with the new visual enhancements.. That new window that opens when the program starts, with the options for what I want to do now, does not resize properly. Once I resized it (made it taller), it won't let me size it back down, instead just moving the window instead of resizing.

Thank you. I love your software and I'm a paying customer, but PLEASE just do something about the cursor operations slowdown.

Chris

You are the first person reporting slow behavior. It runs just fine on my tablet (ntel Pentium M 758, 1.5GHz, 1MB ram). The only thing that is slow is the animated rectangle of the "add to selected stack" animation, but only on Vista. That happens on my 3.2 GHz desktop as well btw.

What do other users experience?

The menu folding may be optional in a future version.

Please note the ">>>" button on the bottom right of the RetentionManager window, it increases the dialog and shows more advanced controls. The only bug is that resizing is not disabled in the collapsed state, please use the button in this situation. Of course this will be OK in the final release.

Thank you for all your comments!

I was just using the Stackz Dictionary edition beta 2 for a while and after completing a Test dialog, I tried moving the stack selection by pressing arrow keys on my keyboard, and instead of the selecting moving, Stackz immediately crashed, losing all the progress I made.

You should have some auto-saving to a temporary file so that if Stackz crashes, it can recover the progress made.

Chris

Stackz really does not seem to run fine on your machine...
How old is it?
What other applications are you running - with or without problems?

Chris

The menu and its animations can be switched off in the new beta 4. I hope that this will be faster on your machine!

Please see this message for beta 4.

I'm going to upgrade to beta 4 now, but I just found another bug with beta 2. When I had my cursor over an example sentence and the tooltip appeared (actually iwas viewing the tooltips for several sentences), I then highlighted some text in the learning dialog and tried to look it up in the dictionary. The example sentence tooltip did not go away, even when I made dictionary tooltips appear. I had to go back to the example sentence tab and click on a sentence to get it to go away.

My machine is I guess 3 years old now. It's Windows XP Tablet Edition SP2. from Motion Computing.

I've been having the same problems with Stackz 07 feeling really slow and unresponsive, and I've been meaning to write about it here but never got to it. Then I installed the latest beta and for some reason it doesn't feel as slow anymore, maybe because I finally could disable the animations and shadows. Scrolling and editing in the edit window still feels very slow, but opening a test window doesn't take 3 seconds as it did before, so I'm a little happier now.
I'm running WinXP Pro, on a Pentium D 3.2 GHz, 2 GB RAM.

By the way, please make it possible to copy example sentences (context menu & Ctrl-C)!

I have also experienced the slowdown with beta 4. Changing the theme to Native Windows XP alleviated this problem.
