Title: Stackz 07 RC5 doesn't open some szm files which Stackz 06 does
Post by: heidi239 on October 09, 2007, 02:07:12 PM
I've noticed that all beta versions so far, up to and including Stackz 07 RC5, do not open certain szm files which I have made. The files can be opened with Stackz 06 standard without any problem.
I'm having troubles uploading an example file to this forum, but I can email it if necessary.

I hope you get the bugs sorted out as Stackz 07 is very pretty!  ;D

I've just emailed a couple of the files concerned to info@stackz.com.

Thanks.

I forgot to mention that I'm running Vista home premium, just in case that's relevant.

I have this problem too...

As i cant open a new topic i will use this one to tell you about another bug i found...

In search window (edit mode) sometimes i can't write properly the hiragana characters, for example writing  ukeireru it writes ukeieru, sometimes ukeireu, sometimes is written correctly... (please think about my suggestion addind a language option for the search box instead that furigana/romaji option)

Also i found that if in edit mode you create two new white cells (insert entry) , and you remove the last one, remaining one white cell in your list, it closes the program (losing all the work you did from last save)

Thanks

Please everybody observing that behavior, send me the files so I can inspect what is wrong with the files. If you want to test yourself, you can try to find the entry that is causing the problem by removing some entries from a copy of the file, and then trying again to open in Stackz 07. The culprit is likely to contain quotes (") or ampersand ("&") which are for some reasons not correctly encoded, but still open correctly in the old version.

If I understand you correctly, you say that the built in IME is not working correctly? How about MS IME? And how about other places... is it never working?
I can't confirm your statement, my attempts were all 100% OK... and I'm almost sure that it will always behave in the same way :-)

Don't do that!  :-)
No, seriously: thanks for the report. That's one of the things the deverloper would hardly ever try, hehehe...

@Heidi,

I started to analyze the files you sent to me. Your file 'Yonsei B4 Reading.szm' contains the entry
"to wonder (about, if), be [become] curious (to know) QW V",
with the korean text
  "V(으)(가) 궁금하다[해지다]"

Your korean text contains some strange characters between (으)(가)... in fact I had to remove the two non-displayed characters with zero width after pasting the text in here, otherwise the forum would not accept my posting.

Just like this forum, the current internal structure of Stackz 07 decides that these characters are invalid and therefore treats the file as erroneous. Even if this line is added and saved in Stackz 07, the file does not open anymore in Stackz 07... this needs to be improved of course.

Do you know about these characters and how they were introduced in your original file?

a bit more than one year... but now I finally managed to fix the problem with opening your files.

The libraries used with Stackz 7.0 or later does not accept some non-standard characters, which resulted in a load failure. They were accepted in the libraries used in older Stackz versions... These are non-vital characters that were probably included in the text that you copied from somewhere.

The latest version, Stackz 7.1.01, detects these incompatible characters and replaces them with a '?' character when opening the file. It informs about the changes made in a dialog box when opening the file. It is easy to manually fix the concerned parts of the corrected file afterwards.
