Title: Trouble Setting Up Dictionaries
Post by: stackzrockz on September 25, 2007, 12:18:34 AM
I'm having trouble with the dictionary function.  Even though I downloaded and have installed edict (I can use the .jdx index file, right?), the button for the dictionary in stacks is grayed out.  Somehow when I first installed the dictionary the input window at the bottom of the screen let me search words - when I input english, stackz did search edict, but the output was garbled.

Please make sure that the language of the dictionary (defined in the dictionary setup) matches the current stackz language (defined with the "Stackz Language" toolbar, or with the dialog "Stackz Options", language tab). Only the dictionaries that have the same language as the current stackz language are visible at a given time.

Also make sure that you use EUC formatted dictionaries. If you are in doubt about the index file, try without it, this is slower but should still work. If the provided index file does not work, try generating your own with this function in the dictionary setup dialog.

Hope this helps...

Still having the same problems:
1) The dictionary button is grayed out
2) However, I can open it via the system tray icon.  If I search on an English word, the text is garbled.
3) Edict is the same version I've always used w/ stackz, but I downloaded the newest one from your link just to make sure.
4) The file/dictionary/stackz default are all set to Japanese
5) Cards in stackz I've made before display just fine.
6) If I try to change the font of the file in the attributes dialog, I get an error message along the lines of "No fonts installed."  I don't know if this is related, but I definitely have some Japanese fonts installed.

<See the attached picture.> I keep trying to post a jpg, but regardless of the size, the server won't let me.

Thanks for your help!
