Stackz - Bug Reports / Re: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error
« Last post by aliaren on November 20, 2009, 03:43:49 PM »
I just discovered more options that won't work properly...
- I can't type in kana mode in dictionary section and kanji selection section; same thing goes for textpad
- when I type in abc mode and hit Go! in dictionary/kanji selection section I get 'runtime error' message again and the program freezes

So yeah, basically, the only thing I can do in Stackz now is opening kanji lists and that's all.

I would really appreciate some help - I first created this thread 6 days ago and so far there's no reply... :| I managed to test Stackz for 1 week before my problems started, I love the program and I want to buy it - but unless somebody tells me what's wrong, I can't, can I? :|

Stackz - Bug Reports / Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error
« Last post by aliaren on November 16, 2009, 12:31:29 AM »
The problem occurs when I try to access Stackz [the newest Dictionary Edition's trial version] Options - a pop-up window appears:

'Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error

Runtime error!

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.'

When I press OK, the program freezes and finally closes itself. The same problem occurs when I try to access Language Settings. Also, when I tested the older version, Stackz 2006, I got the runtime error again, under exactly the same conditions.

I'm not sure if it's a bug or is it something on my end, but I get that error only when trying to access options. As long as I don't click on options, the program works fine.

I have no idea what could possibly happen, everything was fine just yesterday...

PocketStackz / 4th field shows not the answer automatically
« Last post by Teskal on November 07, 2009, 03:52:26 PM »
Hi,
I use 4 fields
1. Kanji
2. Reading
3. Answer
4. Notes

When I create a new Stacks-File with a new list. The first and fourth Field is always visible, only the 2nd and 3rd field are "cloaked". I "uncloaks" it if (I think) I know the answer.

Sometimes it happens that I hide an Attribute (Field) without wanting it. (Normally it happens if I want to edit a card and choose wrong option.)

I can activate it with "show hidden attributes", but after it, I can't see what it is in this attribute automatically. Only the Kanji field is visible.

How can I change it back?

Normally I use it to write there similar answers, Kanji or which answer would be wrong. This is not possible anymore, after I hide it.

PocketStackz / Re: Making new word lists on the PPC
« Last post by Konstantin on October 14, 2009, 07:03:44 PM »

I'm using 7.1 on a WM6.1 machine and can't figure how to go about authoring a new list. Knowledge on the table, please?

Hello kamikun,

There is no direct way to create a new list with PocketStackz.
But you can always make a copy of an existing list and modify it as you would like.
Sometimes I do so, if I can not use the desktop version of Stackz.
In this case I copy an empty list.
Otherwize I have to delete too many cards before I start entering new cards ;D

Best Regards,
Konstantin

Limettchen:

Thanks for the reply. I knew about the editor but was hoping I could create and work on lists while mobile... I can edit them on the PPC so that'll have to do for now.

One other problem is that the editor program has gone missing. When I try to download it my browser says it's there, but no data comes down the pike. The download always shows 0kb. Know of any alternate sites for the application?

Again, appreciate you taking the time to answer the post!

hello kamikun

I don't know if it's possible to do it directly on your pocket pc. But in any case there is the free Stackz List Editor:
http://www.stackz.com/Stackz/StackzListEditor.htm

It runs on your PC and let's you create and modify your stackz lists in a very comfortable way!

wow. Here it is, October, and this'll be the first post in this section for 2009...  :'(

I'm gonna go ahead and try asking this anyway - hope someone can help.  Am I just stoopid or is there no way to create new wordlists with the Pocket PC version of Stackz.

I'm using 7.1 on a WM6.1 machine and can't figure how to go about authoring a new list. Knowledge on the table, please?

Seriously, I love the heck out of this application and it's sad to see these pages so quiet. Is development being done for iPhone or is there any other action going on behind the scenes that might leak out over into the WinMo areas?

PocketStackz - New Feature Requests / card include slider
« Last post by limettchen on September 21, 2009, 07:14:01 PM »
It would be great having the sliders for selecting which cards should be included, the way it is in Stackz for PC. Your programs are really great, I've already got spoiled by the PC version and don't want to miss this great functionality on my new phone! :D

Stackz - New Feature Requests / discrete points in the include slider
« Last post by limettchen on September 21, 2009, 06:57:39 PM »
First: Stackz is really really great! Thank you guys so much!

I especially like the slider used for in-/excluding cards based on the current color mode. I'm mostly using the RepeatAdvisor with the option "double refresh interval on each success in level 5", because this is exactly what I want to do with mastered cards. There is only one problem: the slider is divided into ~15 discrete points. When I begin learning a new lesson, I have refresh intervals of several days. But my good cards are up at 150 days. So I can only select all the cards I have to refresh in the next 10 days together. However, in the first learning phase there is a huge difference between 10 and 0 days.

So far, I have thought of two ways to solve this problem: One possibility is to use an exponential scale: when cards are near to expiring, I can choose points close to one another in time, whereas cards far away in the future are mapped closer together. This could be implemented as a check on the menu that appears when right-clicking the slider. This way, most users won't ever notice it, but those interested in configuring the slider would find it quite intuitively.

Another (maybe even better) way is to slightly modify the Retention Manager dialog: The text box next to "Uncritical", which for the moment simply shows in numbers where you put the sliders (e.g. "0-11.1 Days Reserve"), could be editable, so you could write "0-1 Days Reserve" there and get the specified cards.

Only making the slider continuous won't solve the problem, as it would be very hard to select the desired points correctly (and I suppose you had a good reason for making it discrete...). Please let me know what you think about this.
