The Stackz Wordlists / Re: How to key in TSU and Yoons half size?
« on: June 04, 2007, 06:47:49 PM »
Note that you can use 'xtu' to enter the small tsu directly, in MS IME and Stackz IME, but Brett's answer is of course the one that is more useful.

Such a feature could be offered by Stackz, e.g. by using the test dialog with an automatic display advance, or with a dedicated slide show mode. However, since the Stackz learning and repetition concept heavily relies on the user interaction, such a slide show does not really fit in the existent system. But because it's not contradicting the system either, it might be available one day, but it has low priority.

PalmStackz / PalmStackz and memory card

I plan primarily to use Stackz on my Palm, and can the program and the cards be run from a memory card?  Looking forward to continually using this as my class continues.

I moved this question here.

The features of Stackz 07 are complete!

We are happy to announce that Stackz 07 Beta 1 has just been released for testing.

(Click for high resolution)

General new features:
  • New GUI with dockable control bars, customizable UI themes, new icons, reduced flickering and overall slick appearance. Reorganized toolbars, including a new toolbar with lanugage selection dropdown listbox.
  • New concept: Restriction of the range of the cards included in the Test/Learn/Match action. New tool dialog "RetentionManager" for convenient control of the new functionality.
  • Improved Stack selection handling.
  • The ImportList Wizard can split content into lessons during one import action.
  • Simplified font handling.
  • Using the native Windows unicode controls now (Custom controls abandoned, Win9x no longer supported). Editing text of all Windows languages automatically supported. (This has no influence to the files content, only concerns text presentation.)
  • Cut/Copy/Paste entire lessons, also across files.
  • StackEditDialog:
    • Move entries to different stacks
    • Detect duplicate entries in all columns
  • All Window Positions and column widths are persistent across Stackz sessions
  • Change the Attributes (column) Order
  • Improved Skill Management
  • AutoImportLessons: Filenames are automatically used as Lesson Titles

Japanese features:
  • Example Sentences Dialog (Tanaka Corpus)
  • Text Analyze Function improved: now also lists individual kanji which are not part of other search results

The Stackz Wordlists / Re: Uploading files (study lists)?
« on: May 21, 2007, 04:42:16 PM »
Thank you for sending us lists!

Please send all lists as email attachement to info at stackz dot com. We will be happy to add them to the archive!

Thank you very much for this great idea. There are even some advantages doing it this way, e.g. no additional window needed.

The dedicated Example Tool has some advantages as well because it will be optimized for browsing example sentences. There will be a feature that semi-automatically adds example sentences to new entries added from the dictionary, and there it is better to have the two tools side by side.

Anyways, I like the idea that the users can choose which way they want to access the example sentences!

General Discussion / Re: Do you still use paper flashcards?

Good to hear your plans ;)

Just to make it clear, the Stackz 2006 licenses will be fully valid for the 07 version so there is no need to wait... Well yes there is the danger that you get accustomed to an old version - but since the main system remains the same this risk is small. In any case, the Stackz system shows its power on the long run, so it's of course better to start early.

Yes, better versions of existing lists in the archive are always very welcome! This is also true for minor error corrections or enhancements of existing lists.

Re: Lesson management keyboard shortcuts
Korean Dictionary
Automatic IME activation for each column

In the edit this stack dialog window, is it possible to set the columns to automatically default to korean or english data entry? (ie: i want the first column to automatically default to korean input, and the second column to automatically default to English input so that i dont have to keep changing the microsoft IME panel from english inout to korean input. Its a very small issue, but would save a lot of time when entering in many words (often i enter in a word or sentence and realise that i forgot to change it to korean input mode, as all the words in one column should be the same language so it makes sense to have it default to one language for every row of that column).

The keyboard that is assigned to the language of the edited attribute is automatically activated when editing an attribute. You can do this keyboard assignment, along with the font definition, in the language definition dialog.

More info can be found in the "Languages" section of the manual:

1) Will there ever be a dictionary version of stackz for the korean language?

If you (or someone else  :)) points me to an available korean dictionary, I can think about it, at the moment I'm not aware of one.

I downloaded the stackz 07 preview and after using it for a short time I have one suggestion. Please implement some form of keyboard shortcuts for lesson management into the main window. My main file I use to work from has many lessons all together in the one file. I use this file promarily on my PDA and perform maintenance using the PC version. I like to have the focus lesson for any one week at the top of the file so that i can access it quickly, but in order to move it to the top of the pile i have to continually right click and select 'move up'. If i decide to add a new blank lesson then i have to move it all the way from the bottom to the top which takes a minute or two of right clicking. It has been a frustrating issue of this great program now for quite a while.

thanks for this suggestion!

The unicode controls in Stackz 07 will handle this issue automatically!
